Wind and Spring

Selected poems of Kim, So-Wol

Wind blowing in spring, spring blowing wind,
Wind blowing, shaking a tiny branch,
Wind shaking my breast, blowing spring,
Say it’s spring, say it’s wind, in this body of mine
Say it’s flowers or say it’s a shot of whiskey and weep

Cricket

Cricket

Howl of the mountain wind.
Drumming of the chilly rain.
At night when you talk
of the sorrows and joys of life,
The wine stall fire dies and
the cricket weeps.

Sowöl Kim Chöng-sik 1902~1934

Azaleas

Azaleas

When you go
sick of the sight of me
I’ll send you off quietly without a word

On Yaksan in Yŏngbyŏn
the azaleas
I’ll pick armfuls and strew them on your path

Your parting steps
please walk gently
on these blossoms

When you go
sick of the sight of me
my tears won’t fall though I die

So-wŏl Kim Chŏng-sik 1902~1934
